What happens within the components when you start a vm in openstack?

Am new to openstack, and I would like to know what happens within the 7 components (especially the Compute - Nova) when you start a vm through the dashboard, is there any chain of commands or path? Something like a flow chart of what happens would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
